My client a busy and growing organisation based in Colchester are looking for a System and DevOps engineer to join their team.

The Systems & DevOps Engineer is responsible for effective, provisioning, installation/configuration,operation,and maintenance of systems infrastructure including; cloud infrastructure and platform services - AWS, on - premise & data centre hosted hardware, software and network infrastructure. 
You will be pivotal to delivering a major programme to migrate from on premise and data centre hosted applications to AWS cloud IaaS and PaaS.
You will be tasked with the Implementation of AWS services - EC2, Elasticache, Loading balancing, RDS - Aurora, S3 and Glacier storage.
Researching, recommending and implementing best practise DevOps processes and tools. 

Working closely with our development teams to support implementation of build pipelines, automated regression.
Participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.

Main Duties include:
Implement and operate AWS services - EC2, Elasticache, Loading balancing, RDS - Aurora, S3 and Glacier storage
Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures
Contribute to and maintain system standards
Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system
administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions
Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary
Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary
Investigate and troubleshoot issues in relation to IT infrastructure
Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. 
Coordinate and communicate with impacted departments
Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures
Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required
Ongoing observance of data security guidelines
To provide back up support to the User Services Manager

Flexibility: to perform other duties, as and when required to ensure the smooth running of the organisation and to meet the needs of the business.

Professional Skills & Abilities:
Expert knowledge of IT infrastructure including web/internet facing services
Knowledge and experience with Firewalls, load balancers, web/application servers, database servers
Knowledge and experience of IT operations and security processes - backups, vulnerability scanning etc
Experience and desire to develop deep skills in managing AWS cloud infrastructure
Ability to identify, diagnose and rectify IT issues
Knowledge of web application and API/Services architectures
Knowledge of SQL databases
Ability to research and implement technical solutions
