Just Recruitment is recruiting for an Operational Support Engineer on behalf of a company based in Gillingham, Kent.

Position overview:

To support operations in ensuring that all methods of manufacture adhere to all aspects of Safety, Quality, Volume and Cost.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Not product specific, to work on process and product quality improvements/process issues across the site, as directed
  • Ensure that the work environment meets the requirements for environmental, ergonomic and health & safety considerations
  • Lineside ‘hands on’ technical support to the working group, supporting the operator on the process to resolve problems
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all equipment used in manufacturing or assembly processes is functioning and achieves required safety, quality and volume requirements
  • Support the hourly needs of the operation by monitoring and responding to process output signals such as OA performance, Traffic light charts, OE, FTQ data etc.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all gauging equipment used in manufacturing or assembly processes is functioning, working within specification and calibrated
  • Maintain process to ensure adherence to accepted quality standards and to the sites quality system requirements
  • To ensure control of departmental key characteristics (M.C,L, QCI)
  • To generate, process and employ the use of data in problem resolution
  • To provide structured problem solving activity and liaise with internal and/or external individuals on problem resolution
  • Carry out FMEA / RFMEA process documentation and implement improvements
  • To create operational standard work and line balance, understanding process constraints, and areas for improvement
  • Deliver robust projects and process improvements from concept through to completion – to include mc operation, set up and validation
  • Identify and deliver cost savings opportunities, whilst maintaining product quality and volume

Ability to modify and update Technical documents, where appropriate

Skills:

Mandatory

  • Understanding of EH&S requirements, and methods of assessment
  • Capable of assessing risks
  • A structured, organised approach to working
  • Analytical and data literate, demonstrate the use of data to solve problems
  • Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, project etc.
  • Understanding of Engineering drawings and Geometric tolerancing
  • Knowledge of Key characteristics (MC&L)
  • Design capability using CAD / SolidWorks
  • Understanding of process and gauge capability, and required controls (MSA)
  • Have the ability to get teams engaged in the improvement of the process
  • Ability to develop and present technical presentations to management and others
  • Strong project management skills ‘with meet the objectives and milestones’ mentality
  • Understanding of PFMEA and risk analysis
  • Appreciation of SPC controls
  • Understanding of process capability and control (cpk,ppk)

Desirable

  • Usage of AS400 system to implement routings, tools etc

Qualifications/Education/Experience:

Mandatory

  • (Mechanical) Engineering Degree or ‘time served’ or relevant industry experience in a broad spectrum of activities
  • Hands-on experience of CNC machining processes in a manufacturing environment – grinding, turning, milling etc

Desirable:

  • Trained in Shainin / Six Sigma
  • Knowledge of problem analysis techniques such as 5 why, 8D, Ishikawa
  • Experience of working on projects/improvements from concept through to completion – to include mc operation, set up and validation
