Just Recruitment is partnering with an automotive manufacturer based in Gillingham, Kent, to recruit a highly motivated Product Inspection Manager.
You will be leading a diverse team of inspection engineers and technicians, managing state-of-the-art measurement technologies and facilities to support the development of cutting-edge ICE technology towards achieving the carbon-free goal. You will also provide measurement expertise to support key engineering activities from product performance validation to new product development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and motivate the team, developing career progression and training plans.
- Define and balance priorities and resolve conflicts in a timely manner.
- Manage and develop the Product Inspection resource to satisfy business needs.
- Identify and lead continuous improvement opportunities.
- Ensure equipment is serviced and calibrated on time and to specification.
- Ensure EH&S, Environment, Health and Safety and QMS, Quality Management System conformance.
- Ensure risk escalation is correctly executed.
- Represent the company at customers and suppliers, and Product Inspection internally.
- Develop global networks and relationships at all levels of the company.
- Develop metrics to monitor and report progress to meet department targets.
- Support the department's financial management.
- Carry out Engineering sample inspection (pre- and post-validation activities).
- Produce required reports, datasets and other documents to a high standard, including written English.
- Lead internal training on specialist inspection and metrology equipment.
Experience required includes:
- Proven experience in the automotive sector and precision engineering.
- Knowledge of Diesel fuel injection systems, test environments and Diesel engines.
- Solid understanding of the fundamentals of dimensional metrology and best practices.
- Proven experience with surface finish measurement, such as Zygo, Alicona, Taylor Hobson.
- Experience with visual and imaging inspection technologies, contact and optical 3D metrology equipment.
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance, specifications.
- Experience with writing measurement programmes and process automation.
- Programming skills using Matlab, Python and VBA.
- Experience in managing a small team and managing a large number of projects in parallel.
- Experience in lab management.
- Written English to a professional standard.
- Demonstrated experience working with customers and communicating at all levels.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams to meet the company's business objectives.
- Available for travelling (customers, suppliers, other company sites).
- Attention to detail and data-driven mindset, experience in applying design for inspection and statistical analysis.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels and interpersonal skills.
- To be a self-starter, self-motivated and willing to learn new skills.
- Solid problem-solving skills. Ability to identify risks and escalate as appropriate.
- Ability to work under pressure, willing to go the extra mile.
- Drive 5S and workplace organisation implementation.
- Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline and 7+ Years of previous experience in a relevant engineering sector
- Postgraduate degree in metrology or precision engineering discipline.
