10 surprising chocolate facts

We put together a list of ten wonderful and surprising facts about cocoa beans in honour of World Chocolate Day.

  1. In Mayan times the cocoa bean was used as currency. It was thought to be more precious than gold! Production of cocoa was restricted to ensure the price of cocoa did not increase.
  2. The average Brit eats around 11kg of chocolate a year. Weighing over 5kg.
  3. Chocolate crisps exist! For a short period of time, Laysin America sold ready-salted crisps, dipped in chocolate!
  4. Red wine complements chocolate the best. White or sparkling wine is thought to be too acidic and overpowers the sweetness of the chocolate.
  5. Brussels airport is the largest seller of chocolate in the world, selling around 2 tonnes of chocolate per day, that’s 1.5kg per minute!
  6. Chocolate became one of the earliest American exports in the sixteenth century when Columbus and Cortez brought cocoa beans back to Spain.
  7. Dark chocolate boosts memory, attention span, reaction time, and problem-solving skills by increasing blood flow to the brain. More excuses to eat it!
  8. There is a correlation between the amount of chocolate a country eats and the number of Nobel laureates born in that country. Chocolate equals intelligence? Who would have thought!
  9. The Aztec emperor Montezuma II drank over 50 cups of chocolate a day!
  10. The most valuable chocolate bar in the world is a 100-year-old Cadbury’s chocolate bar which Captain Robert Scott took along to the first Discovery expedition of the Antarctic. It sold for £470 in 2001!

About the role

Just Recruitment is working with a growing manufacturing business, based on the outskirts of Sudbury, to recruit a Warehouse Operative to join their team on a permanent basis.

The key purpose of this role is to support the business with the movement of raw materials and finished products as required.

In order to be considered for this role, you must possess a valid counterbalance forklift licence.

Key duties include:

  • Carrying out warehousing tasks, including order picking, storage allocation and record keeping
  • Carrying out dispatch duties, including consolidating finished goods for daily loads
  • Taking responsibility for ensuring goods are checked in and out using the stock management system
  • Replenishing stock throughout the day and assisting with stock checks

Role requirements include:

  • Counterbalance forklift driving licence and experience in driving forklift trucks

  • This role follows a three-week rotating shift pattern: Weeks 1 and 2 run Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm, and Week 3 runs Monday to Friday, 4:30pm–1:30am.
